The State Open of Virginia is the premier golf tournament in the Middle Atlantic region co-conducted by the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) and the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA). The 2022 event was held July 15-17 at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.

The annual field is comprised of 144 amateurs and professionals who earn entry through exemptions and/or qualifying tournaments hosted across the region. This year's Champion, Radford University's Nick Taliaferro, made a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole to best 2021 winner, Evan Beck, by one stroke.

The State Open of Virginia was first held in 1924. In the modern era, the VSGA and MAPGA have collaborated on a single championship event since 1985.
